1. The Sand and Me
Stretch yourself out as if it were your job and relax with a thermos of mate close at hand. Then, grab whichever novel by John Irving.

2. It is Love that Bleeds
Spend time at the beach and find lovers that you would never have in your real life: An ordinary lifeguard, a guy selling hotdogs, or the bald guy from the rental car place. Profess unconditional love to them and publish the photos on an anonymous blog.

3. Exquisite Dead Bodies
Visit the Recoleta Cemetery to reflect over all of your failures amongst the most elegant tombs in Buenos Aires. Take some flowers and leave them at the most forgotten tomb. A boatload of history, a lot of marble, and a tremendous amount of fast food surrounding the Cemetery. Closed at night.
Junin 1760

4. Divine Justice
If you live in Palermo Hollywood, call the police at 3:00am to complain about the loud noise. When all of the people leave their respective clubs, take a walk around the neighborhood with a sense of accomplishment.

5. Meditation
Sign up and go on a Jesuit spiritual retreat in San Ignacio, Uruguay. Spend the summer closer to God guided by the Manresa Spiritual Center whose mission is to create a religious experience through prayer. Then, walk around Punta del Este among all the hedonists. 6. Cinema in a Refrigerator
The January heat melts everything in Buenos Aires. Take a stroll through the microcenter during the afternoon and go to the Leopoldo Lugones Theatre to watch a movie. The film could be boring or mind-blowing, but at least it's air conditioned.
Corrientes 1530
Tel: 800.333.5254

7. Large Masses
Converted into a historical focal point of the city, the Las Violetas cafeteria has been a member of the capital since 1889. Sit down to read those boring summer newspapers in a table close to the window. When you get tired of that, whittle away the hours observing the Portenos.
Ave. Rivadavia 3899
Monday to Friday and Sundays, all day.
Tel: 4958-7387

8. Personal Matters
If you have to work during January, take at least a weekend off and go to the Spa de Mar de las Pampas where they will give you massages, mud baths, and skin cleanses so you can feel great when you return to the solitude of the office.
Tel: (02255) 45-6592

9. Reading in the Shade
The Issac Fernandez Museum is a colonial Eden in the heart of Retiro. Behind the large wooden door there is a garden with antique statues and inviting benches perfect to sit down and read a book under the pine tree shade. Zamai, written by Antonio Di Benedetto, is a great book for a setting such as this one.
Suipacha 1422
Tuesday to Sunday from 2pm to 7pm.
Holy days from 3pm to 7pm.
Mondays closed.
Entrada $1. Thursdays free.
Te. 4327-0272 /0228.

10. Catch a Wave
The surf board is already a favorite. With Jack Johnson in the IPOD, take some surf classes at the Robinson Crusoe School next to the Pinamar wharf. And for the kids, it's the best place to rent jet skis.
Tel: (02254) 48-1734

11. Summer Gourmet
Buy a brand new blender with all of the bells and whistles and create carrot, apples, or celery smoothies. If one of the new mixtures results in a success, patent it and take it to Punta del Este next summer. If all of the experiments fail, exchange the blender for one of the Ice Cream Makers you see on the infomercials.

12. Creative Afternoons
Go to Costanera del Sur on a bicycle, make paper boats and set them to sail in the river near the Ecologic Reserve. On the ride back, before sunset, eat multicolored jello on the terrace. When you find yourself getting tired of the jello, offer what is left to the cars passing by.

13. Running the in the Sand
It does not matter which beach you have selected, the marathon is a must. Rearrange all of your summer plans and participate in one of the races. If you finish within the first 200, check in to one of the nearest seaside resorts.

14. Hippie Chic
Choose to live like a castaway in one of the beaches in Uruguay. Live off fish and beer and enjoy things like not being able to use a regular bathroom. Go skinny-dipping in the water.

15. Zen Meditation
Why not? On Montaneses 2175 lies a Buddhist Temple Chong Kuan. If you can't beat the silence, join it. This is something that clearly helps the troubled urban mind.

16. Summer Photography
Tired? Perhaps, but this summer why not take a photography course. It's a great way to get to know knew people. El Foto Club offers the best courses for all levels.

17. Kosher Party
In February, celebrate Tu Bishvat, the start of the year for the trees on the Jewish calendar. The tradition says to eat dried fruits and vegetables and plant trees in memory of the land secured in the Middle East.

18. Ferrea Tours
The Intihuasi group organizes tours through abandoned streets on motorcycle. They pass ghost towns and other interesting sites in very unusual transport. Includes lunch and a snack.

19. A Rare Place
Being single and on vacation can be one of the best combinations possible. On Luis Maria Drago 236, Casa Brandon serves as a cultural meeting point all summer with tours beginning on Wednesday and Sunday. Join in on the fun or stay at home and bore yourself until March.

20. Cocoliche
Just another large strip mall? Not at all! Located on the outskirts of the city, you will find throngs movie theatres, barber shops, bars and boutiques. Everything meets the criteria of having good taste. You're not alone in the city.
Castillo 441
Tel: 4778-7421

21. Chance and Craziness
In a moment of panic, for all the things that you left hanging in Buenos Aires, bet it all at the casino in Conrad. If fortune smiles at you, stay until the summer ends. If not, move to Cabo Polonio.

22. Terrorism Discography
With minimal effort put all the big record labels on edge with your minimist label. You guessed it -- free and legal music for several pesos only. For now electronica rules the air waves, but soon hip hop and heavy metal will follow.

23. Love is in the Air
Win over your sweetheart forever with a balloon ride at sunrise and feel like Phileas Fogg, the mythical character of Around the World in 80 days. The place?
La Estancia La Encantada, in La Capilla del Senor
